Can you tell us about your art journey?
Since a young age I was obsessed with cartoons and comic books. I was able to express this interest through drawing characters and comics as a young boy. This, along with coming from a very artistic family, sculpted the early part of my art journey. In my more recent years I fell in love with the subject of architecture and was able to refine my art style through architectural training. Spending 12 years in and out of architectural offices and art school helped me to craft my current illustration style.
What is your driving force behind creation?
Making architectural drawings into something every-day people can feel and grasp. Throughout history, architectural drawings have not always been understood by the masses. I want to show my audience something that tells a story and inspires their imaginations.

Ghosted — by Zean Mair-Macfarlane
“Ghosted” was a piece that has a double meaning. Along my journey, for a long time my work was ghosted. I found that a major challenge for most creatives and artists is to actually be seen. In a new NFT space the potential to be “ghosted” is at its height as the market (although flourishing) is still at its early stages. This was a play on words to inspire artists to not give up on what seems like an inevitable fate.
The second part of the piece comes in the literal sense. If you look deeper into the image, you see a piece of architecture almost from the future but fragmented. It is like parts of the building are appearing/disappearing like a ghost. A poke towards the reader to question do things have to be living to become a ghost?
Why did you become interested in NFTs?
For me, NFT’s provided a solution to a real problem. As an Architect/Artist who actually sells art prints in my business I am fully aware of the importance of including “slips of authenticity” into each and every one of my prints. Furthermore most of my prints are digital pieces, NFT’s make this whole process much more efficient.
Why did you choose Refinable?
I have taken the time to research Refinable. Apart from the obvious that Refineable is based on the Binance Smart Chain providing a cheaper, quicker service than Ethereum based platforms. Refinable has a young, responsive team who seem to be forward thinking. Refinable has the potential to create a new type of NFT platform that inspires the younger generation. This is why I am choosing Refinable.
What kinds of artwork / artists do you want to see on Refinable?
I would like to see Refinable approaching artistic works found in new sectors that aren’t necessarily deemed as artistic industries. I think we have seen enough platforms limiting themselves to CGI and fine art NFTs. If you are in the creative industry — and all of us are to an extent — it would be incredible to see artistic expression through different sectors of the modern world. From mechanics, financial, algorithmic, design, performance etc. That is not to say we should ignore the more traditional types of NFT art but to add a new layer to what has already flourished.
What’s your prediction of NFTs in the future?
